There are only a very few books/reading materials available in accessible format for those who cannot read print or better known as print impaired in Sri Lanka. Publications generally come only in print format making it absolutely difficult for the print impaired to access to their contents. On the other hand, legal provisions has not sufficiently address this issue.
However, we strongly believe that no law or a part of a legislation can exclude a community that exists in the same society from exercising their rights such as right to information, education and equal participation.
In 2016, Sri Lanka ratified the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired or Otherwise Print Disabled and the cabinet has already approved the necessary amendment to the prevailling intellectual property law.
We, as a member of DAISY Lanka Foundation have created accessible versions of publications aiming to end the book famine for the print impaired in Sri Lanka. “Abhivruddhi library” for the print impaired is our effort to bring the world’s knowledge at your finger tips. You can browse our entire catalog or browse according to the subjects of the available books. We wish you a happy reading experience with Abhivruddhi!
